Finding Your Way Around Tenerife

If you’re considering holidays on the island at the moment, and are happy with what the weather forecast predicts, knowing where a village or town is on the island if you haven’t visited before is comforting to know, and can be good for practical reasons as well.

For example, when you look at a map of Tenerife, how far away is the hotel or villa you have booked from the airport? And which of the island’s two airports is closest to your accommodation?

The Towns and Villages

There’s two pretty distinctive sides of the island, with the south more built up with purpose made resorts and former fishing vilages now unrecognisable with a range of hotels and accommodation.

In the north of a Tenerife map it’s a different story, with plenty of natural habitat and traditional villages.

LC.gifLos Cristianos is one of the most popular resorts for holidays, and is full of entertainment venues designed to keep families with children entertained, but also for young adults and couples.

For those who like to have a stroll around town, there’s a good harbour to watch the boats coming in and out, with cafes, restaurants and bars for refreshments as you watch the world go by.

The resort, which is on the south coast, has two beaches which are ideal for families.

There’s an array of hotels and guest house accommodation to choose from, and often tour operators like Thomson Holidays have some good deals available.

Another popular area for tourists in the south when you look at a Tenerife map is Playa de las Americas.

If you want nightlife, this is the place to be. The resort was purpose built for Tenerife holidays, and with all the main tour operators offering it there’s often good deals to be had, especially when booking last minute holidays.

It’s not far away from Los Cristianos when you look at a map, so it’s quite easy to stay in one resort and visit the other during your holidays.

The beaches are quite good, and again man has intervened to make sure tourists have good facilities, with imported sand to ensure a quality beach.

pc.gifTenerife Map - the North

It’s a tale of two islands, with some people definitely preferring the noth where nature is in her fully glory, and niche holidays specialising in for example organic food are available.

A typical example of a village where people can find accommodation and have as a base to explore the different areas shown on a map of Tenerife is Garachico, while Puerto de la Cruz is possibly the most modern resort for those who like their holidays to be relaxing, but with all their creature comforts.

The old town of Puerto de la Cruz is a good contrast to some of the modern hotels, so you can get the best of both worlds by choosing this as your location for a holiday.

There’s a couple of good beaches which are often shown on a local Tenerife map, and this includes Playa Jardin – other places to visit while there are the water park if you have children and are visiting as a family, and also the animal park.

North or South on a Tenerife map, there’s a good choice of different resorts to choose from, and finding somewhere that will suit your type of holiday is one of the attractions of visiting.
